EDWARDS OFFERS BAD PLAN FOR FORCED HEALTH CARE

FOX NEWS - Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards said on Sunday that his universal health care proposal* would require that Americans go to the doctor for preventive care.

"It requires that everybody be covered. It requires that everybody get preventive care," he told a crowd sitting in lawn chairs in front of the Cedar County Courthouse. "If you are going to be in the system, you can't choose not to go to the doctor for 20 years. You have to go in and be checked and make sure that you are OK." He noted, for example, that women would be required to have regular mammograms in an effort to find and treat "the first trace of problem." Edwards and his wife, Elizabeth, announced earlier this year that her breast cancer had returned and spread. Edwards said his mandatory health care plan would cover preventive, chronic and long-term health care. The plan would include mental health care as well as dental and vision coverage for all Americans.

Requireing Mammograms? The benefits of getting mammograms before menopause are dubious at best, for mammograms expose the breast to radiation and pre-menopausal breast tissue is much more sensitive to radiation damage.

Untrasound mammograms are available and safer, but x-rays are still considered the standard. Ultrasound is ususally only used after a problem has been found. My mother has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer, she had recieved mammograms every year for the past 37 years, starting over a decade before menopause, and they still needed to use ultrasound to find her tumor. The cancer has already spread to her lymph system.

Personally I'm waiting until menopause before I get a mammogram, I'll just stake 3.5 years of breast feeding my kids and the considerable reduction in risk that gives me, and see to my own health for the moment.

Given that doctors are so drug and intervention happy these days, Edward's plan seem rather dangerous.

I'm assuming that 12:15 is not in favor of universal health insurance period, since that scenario could occur even without the proviso of preventative visits under a government-sponsored health plan.

Just another rationalization that permits the government to get out of what it should be doing--that is, serving the people--in a different guise.

Until there is meaningful campaign finance reform ,our whorehouse congress will transform every effort towards civilised gov't into another plan to deliver taxes to their corporate employers.
