US AIR FORCE ADOPTS NAZI MOTTO
"The new slogan is admittedly a bold one," said Col. Michael Caldwell, deputy director of Air Force public affairs, "but so are Airmen." This campaign accurately portrays Airmen and how they're executing the Air Force mission to ensure the security and safety of
"'Above All' is about what we do and how we do it," Colonel Caldwell said. "The job of the Air Force is to defend
Although the phrase 'uber alles' describing Germany well precedes the rise of Hitler, any one who lived through World War II would easily associate it with its Nazi use. The adoption by the Air Force is either stupid or scary.

It's both stupid and scary, but it represents truth in advertising. One of the few honest statements made during the bush administration.
Talk about hypersensitivity! Sheez folks! The Nazi's (Hitler Specifically) is credited with the creation of Volkswagon... Does that mean we should never by one? Would you like to have a Porche? Well it was Porche whom Hitler tasked with creating the "Peoples Car" (Volkswagon).
I'm Jewish, and not even slightly offended. It's a good slogan. If we start vilifying otherwise harmless phrases based upon who spoke them in the past, then we truly still are victims.
Appreciate comment (3/17 1:10pm). I'm not sure Sam Smith's article in Undernews was any frenzied Call-To-Arms, and my comments her are just light-hearted musings.
My opinion is that any government should think twice, both in it's words and deeds.
What a rebel though. Col M. Caldwell seems to be marching to the beat of a different drummer by Not interpreting Above All in a Literal manner. Uber alles? How reckless... How bold... Will this man be allowed to remain in a position of responsibility? Unless tinged with Orwellian dialogue, our current political environment has only shown radical support for those people who's wordiness is absolutely too literal for words.
Conservative Literalism cries out, nay demands, that Above All could only be allowed to mean: The positioning of a man in spatial relationship over other humans condemned by gravity to remain closer to terra firma. Im Himmel vor allem v Uber alles?
Despite this confrontation with religiously inspired political literalists, it should be noted that there is already a Very qualified group that has proved its capability to position a man much higher in relationship to other mortals near earth. And Nooo... contrary to what you're thinking I might say, it's Not led by Pat Robertson or the Pope! It's NASA! Yup, our government now has Two (2) agencies with the same apparent mission.
Personally, I wouldn't care if Above All was the Navy's submarine group's motto too... how Inspiring would that be! Just as long as the literalists don't start fighting over their views of things.
On the other hand, maybe we could let Col. Caldwell have his way... even Uber alles. After all, maybe there is a hidden law in nature where, like Icarus, people misguided by ignorance or ego, are eventually brought to a level with the rest of us.
Then, these people might gain a respect for language... and for other people.
For a While.
"Uber alles" can also (and more accurately) be translated as "OVER all."
it's just an accurate description of how the Air Force operates. Known for extreme attention to detail, high level of integrity, and an intelligence quotient that puts the other branches to shame. Not to mention Air Superiority. I really think its a stretch to associated "Above all" with a nazi slogan...of course, anyone who is already anti-Bush, U.S. Govt, military, so on is going to naturally make that connection because it helps them justify their irrational paranoia that their own Govt is out to get them.
