LOCAL HEROES: MAINE TOWN MEETING VOTES AGAINST WAR WITH IRAN

BRUNSWICK TIMES RECORD, ME - Despite questions from some residents about whether such a vote would really make a difference to U.S. foreign policy, voters at a town meeting overwhelmingly supported a resolution calling for peace in Iran. Harpswell residents voted 112-24 in favor of the resolution. Selectmen Amy Haible and Jim Henderson voted in favor, while Selectman Mark Wallace opposed. The vote, prompted by a petition signed by 321 residents, authorizes the town to officially ask Maine's congressional delegation not to support funding for military action against Iran without explicit congressional approval, ensure U.S. relations with Iran are consistent with international law and "encourage talks without preconditions between the U.S. and Iran on nuclear issues and ending the violence in Iraq.". . .
