WLBT - The Toyota Motor Corporation announced it is delaying the start of production at its $1.8 million dollar north Mississippi plant due to the downturn in the auto industry. The Blue Springs facility was scheduled begin production in 2010. "Our dream is to make the Toyota plant the pride of Mississippi and the Tupelo area," said Toyota manufacturing executive Ray Tanquay. But that dream, shared by Tanquay on February 27th of last year, is deferred with the corporation's plans to delay production of the Prius at Blue Springs. . . Monday Governor Haley Barbour expressed his disappointment but said Toyota stressed that the move is simply a delay due to current market conditions. . . The governor said Mississippi has invested $200 million dollars in the plant, with an additional $35 million coming from local governments.
