NO TRANSITION ON MARIJUNA

From the Obama transition site

Q: "Will you consider legalizing marijuana so that the government can regulate it, tax it, put age limits on it, and create millions of new jobs and create a billion dollar industry right here in the U.S.?" S. Man, Denton

A: President-elect Obama is not in favor of the legalization of marijuana.

I'm a firm believer in democracy. People should have a real say in who governs them and how.

But I'm also a p p a l l e d at how easily people are hoodwinked and led up the garden path by politicians.

What's going on there?

Is it nature? An inbuilt tendency to bend the knee when we should be looking around for an ax instead? (thanks to T. Pratchett OBE for that suggestion)

Or nurture? Is our socialisation (un?)consciously designed to keep us out of trouble with the owner class, but it does it by turning us into pack animals (in both senses of the term)?

Insights, please?

(Sam, you could get better discussions going - presuming you'd want to - by switching to PHPBB software. It implements the discussion model, not the newspaper model. It's socially-built, easy to install, and free.)
