|||| After Wandering in the Desert, William Thomas sat down on the White House sidewalk with a small cardboard sign, "WANTED: WISDOM & HONESTY," and a flier. He was quickly arrested, the first of many attempts to displace him.Thomas' message has stood north of the White House day and night since 1981, except for a three-month period in 1988 when Thomas was sent to prison by U.S. Judges Flannery and Richey, who wanted to "deter others from adopting your lifestyle." ||||
We proposed that DC become a state, an article that led to the
creation of the DC Statehood Party. Years later both the Washington
Post and the NY Times editorially endorsed the idea.
We argued that the historic buildings on and around Pennsylvania
Avenue (running from the White House to the Capitol) should be
saved contrary to official plans of the time. These plans were
eventually reversed and the buildings were saved.
