Your editor has been a musician for many decades. He started the first band his Quaker school ever had and played drums with bands up until 1980 when he switched to stride piano. He had his own band until the mid-1990s and has played with the New Sunshine Jazz Band, Hill City Jazz Band, Not So Modern Jazz Band and the Phoenix Jazz Band.

The so-called "public" plan would be administered by contracted entities (most likely insurance companies). By the time it all works out, the coverage and premiums will be just like insurance companies. This is a bogus plan designed to confuse and bamboozle the low information voters.

Well, if people are going to be fined $1,000, then they are entitled to at least that much worth of health care.

I'm trying to contain myself enough to point out how closely this resembles the buying of state legislatures who then required by law every driver to buy liability insurance. What happened next? The states uniformly passed rear-end collision laws which basically eliminated lawyers from most car accidents and saved the insurance cos. mega-bucks. Subsequently three-quarters of US drivers determined that the way to avoid hitting anyone from behind was to not let anyone in front of them, i.e., tailgating, which led to an epidemic of accidents and profit for the insurance cos. And people think Americans are dumb.
