We have the AARP onboard because they know this is a good deal for our seniors. AARP would not be endorsing a bill if it was undermining Medicare. - Barack Obama in Portsmouth NH

Indications that we have endorsed any of the major health care reform bills currently under consideration in Congress are inaccurate. - Tom Nelson, AARP chief operating officer.

I happen to be a proponent of single-payer universal health care coverage.
- Barack Obama, 2003

I have not said that I was a single-payer supporter - Barack Obama 2009

I bailed out of AARP when they endorsed the Bush Drug Plan.

They are not really relevant to any discussion on "Health Care Reform."

What they are: They are insurance brokers.

I, too, quit AARP when they sold us out to increase the profits of their own insurance plan. You can be sure than anything they support this time around will also be more beneficial to their insurance business than it will be to any of their members.
