Agence France Presse - Pesident Obama has reaffirmed a 4-decade-old secret understanding that has allowed Israel to keep a nuclear arsenal without opening it to international inspections, three officials familiar with the understanding said.
The officials, who spoke on the condition that they not be named because they were discussing private conversations, said Mr. Obama pledged to maintain the agreement when he first hosted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House in May.
Under the understanding, the U.S. has not pressured Israel to disclose its nuclear weapons or to sign the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, which could require Israel to give up its estimated several hundred nuclear bombs.
There is no formal record of the agreement nor have Israeli nor American governments ever publicly acknowledged it. In 2007, however, the Nixon library declassified a July 19, 1969, memo from national security adviser Henry Kissinger that comes closest to articulating U.S. policy on the issue. That memo says, "While we might ideally like to halt actual Israeli possession, what we really want at a minimum may be just to keep Israeli possession from becoming an established international fact.". . .
A Senate staffer familiar with the May reaffirmation, who asked not to be named because of the sensitivity of the issue, said, "What this means is that the president gave commitments that politically he had no choice but to give regarding Israel 's nuclear program. However, it calls into question virtually every part of the president's nonproliferation agenda. The president gave Israel an NPT treaty get out of jail free card."

NO SERIOUS DISCUSSION can take place on nuclear arms reduction and non proliferation until full exposure takes place of the massive, secret ISRAELI nuclear arms arsenal in the Negev desert, that is currently completely outside of IAEA inspection.
To do so and ignore this ‘giant elephant in the room’, would simply be nonsensical.
It would lead to a situation whereby not only US foreign policy lies with the Israeli lobby but also global military and political control.
Such a decision would be indefensible.
There is an absolute imperative to control NUCLEAR WEAPONS and their proliferation
The immediate danger that President Obama has to face is the reality of the fact that his immediate predecessor helped built Israel into possibly the 3rd most powerful nuclear state on the planet - the agenda for such totally irresponsible action, being incomprehensible.
To have made Dimona in the Negev the largest secret nuclear weapons store anywhere, cannot have been to ensure the safety of America, or Europe or the Middle East - but it has virtually ensured that, under the control of a political system that has little integrity, there will inevitably be a nuclear weapons strike in the region within the near future.
The region is now so unstable and the politics so unpredictable and the hatred so fierce, in the aftermath of the massacre in Gaza, that it is a merely a matter of time. That is the danger we face, in the UK, in Europe and eventually in the US and the Americas.
It will then not be a matter of oil or carbon footprints but of human survival on a planet blind to the dangers it faces and the absolute imperative to control nuclear weapons and the ambitions of those who will kill without compunction in order to achieve their aims. I have no doubt that Mr Obama is more aware of these dangers than I am - the point is, how far will he be opposed by the powerful, Israel lobby?
Iran is not the huge elephant in the room. Whilst Americas, Russia and Britain are considering reducing nuclear weapon stockpiles – Israel is increasing hers.
Whilst the UK is proposing to reduce its nuclear strike submarine fleet to three, Israel is reported to be increasing its nuclear strike submarine fleet to five! The UK has a population of 60 million. Israel has just 6 million and is about the size of Wales. The UK has a stable government with a working majority. Israel has an unstable coalition.
Where is the logic in this Kafkaesque scenario?
Lindsey Graham just said that the US has to invade Iran because anything else would just be "too much pressure to for Israel."
According to Graham, it is therefore the obligation of the US to completely destroy Iran's military. Iran "should have no planes that can fly and no ships that can float."
Graham is promoting war crimes, and now Sen Saxby Chamblis of Ga completely supports Graham's call for an all out military strike.
How much more wrong can anyone get? This would be an attack against a nation that is not a threat to us. It would be a war crime. A set up like Hitler's march on Poland, or Bush43's attack on Iraq.
With China and Russia's interests in Iran it is likely to start WWIII. Is that what these idiots want?
He's not the one I've been waiting for, and sadly ripped off that campaign slogan from the Hopi Native Americans, without even crediting Them for it!!!
By maintaining an arsenal of undeclared nuclear weapons, Israel has destabilized the Middle East. Israeli leaders no doubt feel that their stupidly coy strategy of not saying they do, not saying they don't have nuclear weapons, instills a measure of fear in the rest of the Arab world.
Fear at first perhaps, but then only loathing and a desire on the part of some to call Israel's bluff. It's playing a ridiculously dangerous game and that, coupled with its increasing number of religious zealots and fanatics who with their juvenile claim of being a "chosen" people and their unbridled hatred for the gentile world, makes Israel, not Iran, a danger to peace in the region at the very least.
