HOW RELIGIOUS EXTREMISTS AFFECT PUBLIC LAWS CONT'D
In 1976, Congress passed the Hyde Amendment, which forbids federal funding for abortion. The only exceptions are in cases of rape, incest, and danger to the life of the woman. Most states have also banned state Medicaid funding for abortion.
Before the Hyde Amendment, women could access abortion services regardless of their income, because Medicaid covered abortion care like it did every other medical service. However, since 1976, low-income women's ability to exercise their rights has been severely restricted.
Congress also denies abortion coverage to military personnel and their families, women receiving care from Indian Health Services, and people on disability insurance.

You gotta be a Republican to get good health insurance that covers abortion!
I'm sure all the interns Bill Clinton's knocked up were taken care of on the public's dime.
Bill Clinton, just like George W. Bush, Ronald Reagan and George Herbert Walker Bush all had the best medical care possible, and yes, just like Medicare, it was paid by a single payer and administrated well by a government agency that we have all come to know and trust. It's a good system, and we should all have it because it lowers costs and it works.
If I was good enough for GWB and Ronald Reagan, well, government run health care is good enough for me too.
Unfortunately, Republicans want to leave out those who are already sick or are financially struggling, which usually means women and children.
It's time to pass health care without all these stupid restrictions on legally available services. Let's remember that abortions went UP under GWB because the number of poor women went UP. Think about it.
