BREVITAS
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Israel - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, headed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Avigdor Liberman, will host a conference next week (27-31 December) for Israeli Heads of Missions. At the conference, Israel's ambassadors and consuls general serving throughout the world will discuss broad diplomatic and strategic issues. This is the first time a conference for all of Israel's Heads of Missions has been held. The idea is to facilitate direct dialogue with the country's leaders, mutual updates on major diplomatic issues, and a discussion of action plans to deal with the challenges awaiting the State of Israel in the international arena in the coming year, including the Iranian threat.
CULTURE
Editor & Publisher may sadly soon be gone, but editor Greg Mitchell is hard at work on a new project, an "Incompleat History of Rock n Roll." He desribes it as "a personal saga, from Elvis in the '50s to my stint as executive editor at Crawdaddy throughout the 1970s, to the present day." He's got a trailer up.
MEDIA
Meanwhile, Mitchell wrote on Monday: "At 2 p.m. today we ship the possibly final issue of Editor & Publisher from our office here at Astor Place in NYC. For the record, it is the January 2010 issue, so we made it into our 126th year, at least. As many may know, we got our closing notice from Nielsen on December 10, which was met by outrage, thousands of supportive messages and even an unlikely place on the Twitter trending list. Staffers decided to stay on and finish that issue and keep our Web site going until the end of the year in hopes of encouraging outside help and bids for takeover. Indeed, there has been a lot of interest but no firm news to report as yet. We are scheduled to vacate and shut down for good by the end of Thursday if nothing materializes, though of course could always be brought back a bit later."
RELIGION & BELIEFS
Hardly supporting the efficacy of religion, the Pew people have found Mississippi, Alabama and Arkansas the three most religious states. New England is the least religious part of the country led by New Hampshire and Vermont. Alaska is almost as non-religious followed by Massachusetts, Maine, Connecticut and Rhode Island. 82% of Mississippians say religion is very important in their lives but only 36% of those in Vermont and New Hampshire.
