WAR DEPARTMENT

Press TV - The number of returning war veterans who commit suicide after leaving the US Army has increased drastically, according to government figures. The Veterans Affairs Department said Monday that the suicide rate for men aged 18-29 who have been discharged had gone up by 26 percent from 2005-2007.

Most of the veterans in this age group served in Iraq or Afghanistan battlefields, preliminary data showed.

In 2005, the rate per 100,000 veterans among men ages 18-29 was 45, compared with 7 in 2007, the Veterans Affairs said.

Yet another example of numbers getting away from you. Without a citation link I can't check those figures, but 57/45 is 1.2666... How could a 5 go accidentally missing from the middle of a phrase, and in such a way as to entirely contradict the point, without being noticed? Perhaps it was a patriotic editing error, though I've never seen omission of figures here before, just facts.
