The number of federal inmates has increased from approximately 25,000 in FY1980 to nearly 219,000 in FY2012.

Labor

The first quarter of economic activity for the US saw a 5.2% drop in hourly wages when adjusted for inflation. This is the biggest decline since records were first kept in 1947.

Back in 1950, more than 80 percent of all men in the United States had jobs. Today, less than 65 percent of all men in the United States have jobs.

A new report released by the National Center on Education Statistics reveals that nearly one in five public schools was considered high-poverty in 2011, a 60 percent increase since 2000.

Since the year 2000, incomes for U.S. households led by someone between the ages of 25 and 34 have fallen by about 12 percent after you account for inflation.

In 1984, the median net worth of households led by someone 65 or older was 10 times larger than the median net worth of households led by someone 35 or younger. Today, the median net worth of households led by someone 65 or older is 47 times larger than the median net worth of households led by someone 35 or younger.
